District 3 General Membership Meeting
Happy 50th, RTO/ERO!!!
District 3 had a banner turnout for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of
RTO/ERO! Almost 150 attendees! Aside from the “Catching up with
Colleagues” and delicious luncheon,
members enjoyed Anniversary Cake and
Ice Cream!
Thank you to Bernice Whalen and her team for the well organized
festivities! District 3 has already received lots of very positive feedback.
We can’t wait for the next Fiftieth!
We must all tip our hats to Mr. Ray Jonusaitis whose
encyclopedic knowledge allowed him to identify almost all
of the TV/Movie theme songs which accompanied
presentations! Well done, RAY! You DO rock!
Unfortunately, due to a family emergency, scheduled speaker Elaine
Pitcher was unable to attend the meeting and will be rescheduled at a
later date. Our thoughts are with Elaine.
Members learned of RTO/ERO’s 50th Anniversary City Hall
Proclamation and the CTV Interviews of local members, who discussed
the District 3’s huge host of Volunteers! The Videos are now online and
will be rebroadcast on Channel 10 for quite a while.

District 3 June Szeman Award
On April 3rd 2018 a standing ovation spontaneously occurred at our 50th
anniversary birthday party when the name of the deserving individual was
announced. The joyous eruption of applause indicated that Gary Wills was
indeed the right choice for the June Szeman Award. Gary has been an
RTO-ERO member since his retirement in 2009. It took little time after his
retirement for Gary to come forward and support District 3 as our
webmaster using his computer and audiovisual expertise.
What singles Gary out is his humbleness and deflection of limelight. He is
always ready to assist others in solving electronic problems. Yes, he is a
true example of kindness, “other focused”, answering the call of many,
many individuals. Certainly he exemplifies, “if you want something done
ask a busy person”. He is an advocate for RTO-ERO. At every meeting or
social event he circulates with his camera and asks permission of those
entering if he can snap their picture. Within minutes a collage of people
entering the meeting becomes part of the warm scene on the screen.
What enrichment this offers to our general meetings!
At District 3 meetings Gary’s quiet, sense of humour sparks interest. He
superimposes unusual and often seasonal embellishments such as bunny
ears and Santa hats on the onscreen photos of the Executive Board
members providing reports. Hours of preparation go into making onscreen
reports attractive to everyone in the audience.
One has only to glance at our web site to ascertain that it is current,
informative and vibrant. Thanks to Gary District 3 is a model in this area of
development.
Yes, Gary is a computer whiz but even more important he is a team
player. The word “I” does not exist in his vocabulary. It doesn’t matter how
insignificant the task, he is there to assist----addressing cards when
needed, delivering Goodwill cookies/chocolates at Christmas, assisting
with labels and the newsletter. He does not choose to be in the forefront
but he certainly gives impetus to those in the front lines of any
undertaking. Gary’s attributes of caring and support are traits that make
our district dynamic. As a valued member of the Executive Board of
District 3 Gary provides a clear perspective on issues and rational advice
about projects of RTO-ERO.
It is without hesitation that District 3 names Gary Wills as the recipient of
the June Szeman 50th Anniversary Award. Thank you Gary for all you do
to enhance our undertakings and to enrich the lives of so many seniors
within District 3!
